Resilient Living: DIY Disposable Face Mask w/ The Urban-Aboriginal
Published 1 week ago
FACE MASKS ARE NOT AN EFFECTIVE PROTECTION FROM GETTING SICK OR CONTRACTING CORONAVIRUS / COVID-19. Consult the CDC for adequate measure and equipment of protection from this and other viruses.
The main role of a face mask is to contain the spread of particles if you cough or sneeze a face mask will reduce the risk of you passing the illness to someone else .
Face masks are only moderately effective at helping to prevent you from spreading diseases. This is because face masks are loose-fitting and cannot fully block small particles in the air, including viruses.
For protection against viruses and other microbes you will need an N95 Respirator. It can filter out at least 95% of particles in the air, including bacteria and viruses, but it requires a proper seal and fit test to work as intended. It is also not feasible to wear a respirator all day, every day.
Both face masks and respirators are necessary medical supplies, so if you feel the need to wear a face covering, there are many alternatives that are as effective as a face mask, such as a bandanna, handkerchief, shemagh, or scarf without using necessary medical supplies.
In this video since there seems to be a shortage of face masks due to reaction to this Coronavirus pandemic, I will show you how to to make a quick and dirty disposable face mask from ordinary household items
What you will need:
- Rubber bands 1/16" X 3"
- Paper towels or kitchen paper 11" X 5.5"
- Tissues or toilet paper (cringe! ;))
- Aluminum foil
- Stapler (duct tape would work as well)
